SLOC Back to the Woods
October 2, 2005
A very warm September extended into October, making the annual return to woods
orienteering a bit tougher than usual. The normally lightening fast woods of Cuivre River
still had a fair bit of undergrowth. That, combined with temperatures in the mid 80's
meant a long day for those doing the 9K advanced course.

Aside from the usual local crowd, we also had a contingent from Kansas City: Michael
Eglinski, Mary Jones, and Fritz Menninger.
Yvonne Deyo and Rick Armstrong designed a course that featured three legs where route
choice was critical (2, 3, and 6). The most interesting of these was leg 2 where the top four runners each took a different
route. That leg proved decisive and the finishing order matched the results of that leg
(Buckley, Eglinski, Frei, Wagnon).
For more analysis of the course, see this month's
blog entries.
