Racer Profile: Eric Buckley
Eric Buckley spent his younger days in the gray area
between amateur and professional cycling. He competed at National Championships,
Olympic Trails, and Veterans World Championships. He entered over 800 cycling
races, winning 84 of them.
He took up orienteering in 1997. There he met local legend
Rich Ruid, a veteran of the Eco Challenge and Southern Traverse, who introduced
him to adventure racing. After dabbling in it for several years, hes become a
true believer and now views his other sports as mere preparation for adventure
races.
Eric was going to get a Corvette for his 40th
birthday, but got a daughter instead. Although certainly more expensive,
both he and wife Kate are ecstatic about the change.
