Here are some of our favorite sites for adventure racing.
Organizations
US Adventure Racing Association As close as there is to
a national governing body at this point. USARA sanctions a series of qualifiers and a
championship event for both sprint and long course.
US Orienteering Federation National
body for orienteering.
US Cycling Federation National body for
cycling - both on road and off.
St Louis Orienteering Club Local club -
one of the older and more established orienteering clubs in the country. Lots of good
maps of east and central Missouri.
St Louis Ultrarunners Group
AKA Slug's. Great group of folks who host 3 ultras and numerous training runs each
year.
Teams and individuals
ThoughtProcess Originally the Gateway
Adventure team, these folks raced with us last year to help get Carol's Team established
and are now our freindly rivals for the top spot in the St. Louis scene.
Race St. Louis Another fun bunch of St. Louis folks
who compete nationally.
Dynamic Earth This team from central Missouri has
rapidly risen to national prominence.
SOAR Adventures Team from Iowa has a
good calendar of Midwest events. Also some articles on racing for newbies.
Swim Bike Run St. Louis Excellent
source for all kinds of local multisport info.
Spike's blog Daily thoughts from Michael
Eglinski. Really good stuff from the world of orienteering. He translates a lot of stuff
from Swedish sites.
Steven Hale's blog Weekly entries from one
of Britain's top navigators.
Tero Log from France's middle distance ace,
Thierry Gueorgiou. Some entries are in French, but mostly it's English.
Blazeman Triathlete with ALS.
Races
Ozark Challenge USARA long course
qualifier. Tough race that features whitewater paddling. Only a short version for
2006, so we'll be sitting it out this year.
Planet Adventure Actually a series of
races, the centerpiece being the long course event in April. Very well run.
Mission on the
Muscatatuck Long course event usually features some interesting ropes sections.
Sylamore Hardcore
USARA long course qualifier. Another toughie from Arkansas.
Berryman Adventure USARA long
course qualifier. Has been our favorite in years past. 2005 edition was first
under new management and was well received.
Raid the Rock USARA long course
qualifier. Includes urban elements. On the short end (winning time around 9 hours) of
long course. Very fun race.
US Long Course Nationals Southern California
in 2006.
