Carol's Team Newsletter
May, 2005
With our big month of racing behind us, it's time to turn our attention to getting the proof
of concept for Carol's Song going. This is somewhat complicated by the fact that we're
moving. On May 17, our new address will be:
12474 Larkwood Drive
St. Louis, MO 63146
Carol
Carol is really starting to show the strain of her condition. Thanks to the many friends
who continue to give her and Paul support. We'll be traveling back to Ithaca to see her
this month and will post an update upon returning. Anne has given us an
update for now.
A benefit concert for Carol will be held on April 30. We'll try to get a report on that
posted soon.
Sponsorship
Hosting
US Intercollegiate Orienteering
Championhsips was a big success. We raised over $3,000 for the development of
Carol's Song. We've decided to do it again next year when we will host the US
Orienteering Team Trials in May, 2006 (USOF approval pending, but we've met with the
national team staff and they've indicated they're all for it).
Carol's Team has qualified for US Adventure Racing National Championships (see
below), so we will now be starting our fund-raising drive for that event. The model we're
using is similar to the highly successful "Team in Training" program used by the
Leukemia Society. We ask individuals and organizations to make a small contribution to
sponsor the effort with the proceeds going to the development of Carol's Song.
We're in the process of putting together a little brochure explaining the mission of the
team that we can give to potential sponsors. We'll post a copy on the web site when it's
done. If anyone wants to help distribute them, we'd gladly accept the help.
Development
As mentioned above, we're getting started on the proof of concept for Carol's Song.
We'll be posting updates in the development section of the site for those who want to
follow the design.
Repeating our call from last month, if
anybody has a lot of dialogue in electronic form, we'd love to use it to get an initial word
distribution.
Racing
April is our big spring month and we have been racing a lot. The big result is a second
place finish at the Ozark
Challenge which qualified us for National Championships. Carol's Team was also
well represented at US Short Course
Orienteering Championships where David and Eric finished second and fourth,
respectively in the 40 and over category.
